Dr. Alfred Brooks, IV grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1976.

He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tennessee in 1980. He practiced in High Point, NC, for six months before moving to the Tidewater area where he practiced in Virginia Beach for five years. In 1985, he founded Chesapeake Animal Hospital in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake, and moved to the current location in 1990. Dr. Brooks is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, and an Affiliate member of the American Animal Hospital Association. He has served as past veterinary advisor to the Chesapeake Humane Society.

He resides in the Hickory area of Chesapeake. He has two adult children, Ashley and Austin, both of whom worked at the hospital while in high school and college. When not working, he enjoys the beach, travel, art and antiques.
