Gretchen Pearce

On Monday, April 17, 2006 at 3:30 pm Gretchen (Gretchie) Pearce went to sleep while in the arms of her mom in her green leather chair at her home. She was born on November 2, 1995 in Colonial Heights, VA to Miss Rosa. She stayed with her 4 legged mom until she was six weeks old. On a winter afternoon in December, she picked Terry Pearce to be her best friend and human mom and would not leave her feet until she was picked up and brought to Chesapeake to join her new family. It remained that way until her last breath.
Life with her new human sister Meredith and human brother Zachary was wonderful. She had lots of toys, treats, and was played with every day. One of her favorite games was catching balls in mid-air when she played outside. During the weeks her mom had to go out of town for business, she spent time with her Nana and was always treated as the princess she was.
Gretchie had the opportunity to travel and live in many areas during her 10 years. She lived in Chesapeake, Greenville, SC, Richmond, and most recently moved back to Chesapeake 3 years ago. In all the homes she lived in she was always provided with yards with lots of things to chase…whether it was chipmunks, squirrels, or birds. And while living in Richmond she became a big sister to Sidney. Gretchie traveled to Florida to visit her uncle and Arkansas to visit her other grandmother. And in her early years, she often traveled to Roanoke and Lynchburg with her mom to keep her company while on day business trips. She was a great road warrior and loved to stop at McDonalds in Appomattox to eat hamburgers.
In January 2006 she was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease. She was very brave and went through lots of tests before being put on medicine that she knew could be risky. After a long and courageous battle for several months, she was overcome from complications of the disease and treatment and probably some other underlying issue. Up to the end, she always had a sweet way of greeting everyone and showed them how much she loved them by always wagging her tail.
Gretchie Pearce is survived by her mom Terry, her Susie, Meredith, Zachary, and her best playmate Sidney. She was loved by many and loved many in return. She will truly be missed forever.
